The Jewish Cultural Society (JCS) is a community in northern New Jersey for those who identify as Jewish by culture and not necessarily by religion. Founded in 1958 as a not-for-profit educational organization, we offer secular humanistic Jews the equivalent functions of a synagogue. Members can celebrate holidays, enrich knowledge of their heritage, enjoy cultural events together (concerts, plays, conferences), engage in social action, and find celebrants for personal life-cycle events. As a cooperative organization, activities are driven by members' interests and level of commitment.

The JCS's approach to Jewishness dates back over a century and is consistent with current trends. The latest Pew Research Center Study (2013) found that 63% of all US Jews say that being Jewish is mainly a matter of ancestry and culture rather than religion. JCS gives meaning and substance to this cultural Jewish attachment.

The JCS is part of a broader movement. We are affiliated with the Congress of Secular Jewish Organizations and benefits from the resources of the International Institute of Secular Humanistic Judaism. Kindred groups in the U.S. include the Workmen's Circle and the Society for Humanistic Judaism.

Please contact us for more information about JCS and its activities.
